A couple of ‘pearls’…
The staff at Okanagan Skin Care Centre recently returned from the annual “Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists” conference in San Francisco. It was a very informative meeting with the focus being the histology of the skin.
One analogy that surfaced at the conference was pertaining to the care we take with our teeth. We usually have a check-up and cleaning every six months. However, to maintain our teeth, we brush them daily. The same should be true for the care of our skin. It is advisable to see a Skin Care Specialist once or twice a year for a review of our skin’s health. The proper use of good quality and appropriate skin products daily helps keep the skin at its best between visits. One would usually never go six months without brushing their teeth between visits, nor should we go without good skin care between visits.
On another note, Retin A has always been one of the gold standard treatments for the skin’s health. It reforms and restructures DNA creating collagen and elastin. Our bodies do not produce Vitamin A so it is recommended to use it regularily. Topical use of retinol has become feared when associating it with sun exposure. It is interesting to note that retinol used the night before offers a natural SPF of 20 for the skin the next day. With the application of a good sunscreen you can put your mind at ease that the use of Retin A in the evening during the summer is safe and good for your skin.
The above mentioned ‘pearls’ are just a sampling of the many facts collected from the conference. Our Skin Care Specialists are available to help you sort out any confusion you may be having regarding your skin’s health, appearance or the products and treatments available to better preserve your skin.
