Rosacea Skin Treatment

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition which typically affects your cheeks, nose, chin and forehead. The first signs of rosacea may be redness or ‘blushing’ which becomes more visible and persistent with time. If rosacea is left untreated, its symptoms will eventually worsen and lead to:

  • Noticeable blood vessels
  • Pimples
  • Watery or bloodshot eyes
  • Bumpy or uneven skin tissue.

Rosacea can affect anyone no matter their age, gender or race. However, it typically affects people with fair skin, those who have a family history of rosacea and those who have been overexposed to the sun. Some rosacea triggers include alcohol, heat, spicy food and emotional stress.

If you are tired of feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable in your own skin, our team of dedicated skin specialists are able to develop a tailored rosacea treatment for you to successfully manage and halt its progression.

Many people who are affected by rosacea have a history of frequent flushing or blushing. This facial redness, which is one of the initial symptoms, may come and go but over time becomes ruddier and more persistent. Because early treatment and diagnosis is always preferred, it is important to recognize the basic symptoms of this skin condition.

Signs & Symptoms
  • Blushing
  • Facial redness which may mimic chronic sunburn
  • Pus-filled bumps or pimples
  • Burning or stinging skin
  • Dry skin
  • Irritated and/or red eyes
  • Facial swelling

In very rare cases, rosacea symptoms can become so severe that the skin tissue around the nose becomes very inflamed, with red bumps forming around and on the nose. This more serious form of rosacea mostly occurs when the condition remains untreated, which is why it is very important to see a specialist if you notice any unusual changes to your facial skin.

At the Okanagan Skin Care Centre, we want you to always look and feel your most beautiful. If you suffer from the frustrating symptoms of rosacea, our skin specialists are able to provide help in two areas:

Personalized Skin Care Regime

By combining the principles of skin care, daily activities and lifestyle habits, our specialists are able to create a rosacea skin care regime that is designed especially for you. We understand that each of our patients responds differently to the various rosacea triggers which is why we use an in-depth consultation to gain a better understanding of your skin, both on the surface and underneath, to help you achieve the best healing results possible.

V-Beam

V-Beam is a type of laser which is designed to treat chronic skin conditions such as rosacea. This pulsed dye laser produces an intense yet gentle burst of laser light that is absorbed directly into the affected blood vessel without damaging your skin. When these blood vessels are heated, they coagulate and are the reabsorbed by your body through a natural healing process, leaving you with a clear and uniform complexion. During the treatment:

  • We will provide you with safety goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam.
  • We will use a small hand piece that will be placed against the affected area to deliver the laser treatment.
  • To protect the skin and minimize discomfort, we will apply a burst of cooling mist prior to each laser pulse.

While a single treatment will result in some improvement, 2-4 treatments are usually necessary to produce the best results, done 4-6 weeks apart. The number of treatments required is highly dependent on the size and depth of the targeted area.
