Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures

Pre and Post Instructions For Botox and Dermal Fillers

At our Kelowna clinic, Botox is administered by highly trained professionals to ensure a safe procedure and beautiful results for our patients. Our team consists of registered nurses as well as estheticians. In addition to our team's training, we recommend patients take certain steps in order to minimize the risk of any possible side-effects and complications.

Pre-Treatment Tips:

  • Don’t consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to your treatment as alcohol may thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of at least 2 weeks before treatment as they can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
  • Scheduled your Botox or Dermal Filler appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event you may be attending, such as a wedding or vacation, since the results can take up to 4-7 days to appear.
  • Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and 2 days after your treatment.
  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore, or blemish on the treatment area. (If you have a history of cold sores, talk to your provider as they may put you on antiviral medication prior to treatment.)
  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink, before your cosmetic treatment. This will decrease your chances of lightheadedness during the treatment.
  • You are not a suitable candidate if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant.

Taking Care Of Your Skin After Botox

Botox is one of the most trusted anti-ageing cosmetic treatments worldwide. When administered by a professional, it’s a safe and effective way to rejuvenate your appearance.

Post-Treatment Tips

  • Don’t manipulate or massage the treated area for at least 3 hours after the treatment.
  • Don’t undergo facial/laser treatments or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least 10 days.
  • It can take approximately 4-7 days for results to be seen. If the desired appearance isn’t seen after 2 weeks, you may need additional Botox.
  • Don’t perform activities that involve straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after the treatment. This will keep the Botox in the injected area and not elsewhere.
  • Avoid extensive sun and heat for at least 72 hours after your treatment. Remember to wear sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) whenever you’re out in the sun.
  • Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excess swelling.
