Post-Non-Ablative Laser Care
The First Week After Non-Ablative Laser Treatment
- For about 7 days after treatment, your skin may feel like it has been sunburned and you may experience some bleeding, oozing, swelling, and redness. Most of these symptoms should subside within the week, although redness may persist for another week.
- Painkillers and a cold compress can be used to help relieve pain and swelling, but don’t place ice directly against the skin, as this can cause damage.
- During the first week after non-ablative laser treatment, it is best to take it easy and avoid strenuous activities.
- You will not be able to shower for the first 48 hours after treatment and you need to avoid using very hot water or spraying water directly onto the treatment area for the first week.
- Keep your skin hydrated by using high-quality skin care products and drinking plenty of water.
- Avoid touching your face and only do so with washed hands to prevent the deposit of oil or bacteria on the skin.
The Second Week After Non-Ablative Laser Treatment
- After 2 weeks, collagen production will be well underway and many people see results by this time. The surface of your skin should be fairly healed, although you may still experience some redness.
- You can return to your regular workout routine at this time.
- When washing your face, use a gentle cleanser. At this point, you can spray your face with water.
One Month After Non-Ablative Laser Treatment
- Results will be visible and you can feel the increased firmness of your skin at this point. All redness should be gone and you should be able to return to your regular face care routine.
- Patients requiring more than one treatment session can have another session at this point.
- It is recommended to avoid the sun for about 4 to 6 weeks after treatment. If you do go into the sun, ensure you are using a high-quality sunscreen of at least 30 SPF.
