4 Steps to Preparing For Your Fraxel Laser Treatment

Do you have any unwanted wrinkles, age spots, or scars you want to eliminate? Then a Fraxel laser therapy treatment might be right for you! While this type of laser skin resurfacing is very gentle, it does require some preparation beforehand to improve your results.

Here are 4 steps you should take to ensure the best Fraxel treatment results:

1. Book a Consultation

The first thing you should do when considering this cosmetic treatment is to schedule a consultation with an esthetician. This appointment is very important because it will allow:

  • You to learn what to expect from Fraxel
  • You to understand if this treatment will help correct the issues that bother you
  • Your esthetician know if you have any medical conditions that might prevent you from having Fraxel
  • Whether or not certain precautions must be taken. For example, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, you might want to postpone the treatment.

It’s important to be very open and honest with your esthetician during this consultation about your medical history and lifestyle. If you have any questions or concerns about the treatment, you should raise them during this appointment.

4 SIGNS YOU’RE A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FRAXEL LASER TREATMENT

2. Stop Smoking

Your esthetician will advise that you stop smoking prior to your Fraxel treatment. You should avoid any type of tobacco products that contain nicotine a few weeks before the procedure. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • Smoking increases your risk of treatment complications.
  • It interferes with your blood flow.
  • Smoking contributes to the signs of aging you are trying to fight, resulting in less than satisfactory results.

Did You Know: Smoking is one of the main causes of wrinkling and other signs of premature aging on the skin. Quitting smoking will not only greatly improve your health, but it will also lead to vibrant and more youthful looking skin.

3. Stay Out of the Sun

You should try to avoid the sun as much as possible before your Fraxel treatment. It’s not just the aging effects of the sun you want to avoid, but also the tanning effects. It’s recommended that you don’t tan for a few weeks before your Fraxel treatment.

Why? Tanned skin can be more difficult to treat because there is a greater risk for hyperpigmentation happening with the laser treatment.

What You Need to Do

Make sure to minimize sun exposure and wear sunscreen whenever you go outside. You should wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 after your treatment to protect your skin and improve your results.

4. Prepare For Your Fraxel Post-Treatment Care

Along with avoiding certain things before your treatment, it’s a good idea to prepare for your recovery period after the treatment. While the discomfort afterwards is fairly mild, similar to a sunburn, you may want to stock up on painkillers and take a couple of days off work.

You may also want to:

  • Have a family member or friend drive you home after the treatment. While you won’t be given a sedative, you might not feel up to driving after the treatment.
  • Take care of as many errands beforehand so you can return home and relax.

Remember, recovering well from your Fraxel treatment is very important in achieving the safest and most satisfactory results.
