Tired of Looking Tired? Our skin rejuvenation team can help you discover which skin treatment option is right for you.
Many patients come to our Kelowna skin clinic for treatments such as Botox or fillers because they’re concerned about the development of wrinkles and fine lines. While there’s nothing wrong with the natural ageing process, some of us feel that wrinkles and lines make us look not just older but tired, stressed, or even grumpy.
At Okanagan Skin, we offer a wide array of skin care solutions, including numerous anti-aging options.
Botox
When it comes to wrinkle reduction at our clinic in Kelowna, Botox is a reigning champion in terms of popularity: according to the American Society of Plastic surgeons, it was the most popular non-invasive cosmetic surgical procedure last year.
A tried-and-true wrinkle reduction option, Botox is a neurotoxin that relaxes the muscles that deepen wrinkles. It’s particularly useful for wrinkles and fine lines that tend to appear around the top of the face.
As a non-invasive procedure, Botox can be done over the course of your lunch hour! Some patients do experience mild redness at the site of the injection, but this can easily be camouflaged by makeup.
Dysport
Dysport is a procedure much like Botox: it contains the same ingredients as Botox, and has roughly the same cost once you take into account the fact that more Dysport is needed to achieve the same effects as Botox. Some experts suggest that it acts more quickly than Botox, but this is offset by the fact that it lasts for between 2-4 months rather than 5-6.
Dermal Fillers
Unlike Botox and Dysport, dermal fillers such as Juvederm do not have a muscle-relaxing effect. Instead, they restore a youthful appearance by adding volume. For example, they can restore cheeks that appear hollow, or rejuvenate a gaunt-looking undereye area. Because of this, dermal fillers are best for use in the lower face or to attack particularly deep wrinkles, while it may be less effective at treating wrinkles that don’t appear alongside significant volume loss.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an excellent way to treat a variety of skin issues, such as hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and fine lines. While some patients experience skin redness for up to a day after the treatment, it requires much less downtime than the more in-depth dermabrasion procedure.
While microdermabrasion is a great preventative option for younger patients seeking to address these issues, a more targeted and powerful treatment such as Botox might be preferable for older patients seeking specifically to address deeper wrinkles.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels, like microdermabrasion, is an excellent all-around anti-ageing option. The depth of the peel dictates how dramatic the results will be, but this treatment can correct fine lines, sun damage, acne scar, age spots, and more. While this treatment's results can be dramatic, it can also require up to 2 weeks off work as you recover, so be sure to put in that vacation request before booking a treatment!
At Home Treatments
With the rise of online retailers and cosmetic specialists, beauty junkies now have access to a huge range of anti-ageing and wrinkle-reducing treatments. We always encourage our clients to pamper and treat their skin between visits, but if you’re looking for powerful and instant results, most at-home remedies might not be for you.
