What Is SkinPen® Microneedling?

Microneedling is an innovative skin care treatment that promises to reveal healthier, younger-looking skin. This advanced anti-aging therapy is designed to gently penetrate the skin with microneedles to stimulate collagen production and safely improve the overall texture of your skin. The treatment is commonly performed by a dermatologist or licensed aesthetician and can be used on any part of the body but is most commonly used on the face. Microneedling is in close competition with laser resurfacing treatments providing skin transforming results that do not require any downtime.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling involves the piercing  of small, sterilized needles into the top surface of the skin for rejuvenation.  These tiny, controlled injuries then stimulate your body’s natural healing response. Immediately after treatment, you may notice that your skin is a bit red and slightly swollen. This is because your skin is in the inflammation stage where it is beginning the process of removing dirt and bacteria, increasing new blood flow, and starting to create new tissue. This process also stimulates the production of collagen to give you a plumped, youthful appearance. The next few days after your treatment is when you will start to notice the results as the tissue in your skin continues to rebuild and collagen production increases.

Microneedling was originally delivered via a manual roller with tiny needle pricks attached. This technique did not evenly puncture the skin and could not reach smaller areas on the face. Thanks to new technology, handheld devices such as SkinPen® Precision were created to accurately target all areas of the skin much more effectively. The depth of the SkinPen® needles can be adjusted to allow for tailored treatment plans to target each patient's individual skincare needs and aesthetic goals.  SkinPen®  is the most effective microneedling device because it uses stainless steel medical-grade needles that work vertically, delivering consistent micro-injuries as set by your dermatologist.

Benefits Of SkinPen® Microneedling Treatments

Microneedling Is a Non-Heat-Based Skin Care Treatment

Most heat-based skincare treatments such as laser resurfacing treatments, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments, and laser hair removal require some downtime associated with them and advise you to stay out of the sun for a certain amount of time. This is because the skin post-treatment can be incredibly sensitive towards the sun and will be more prone to sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Microneedling requires no downtime after treatments and when paired with SPF, there is little to no risk associated with hyperpigmentation or sun damage.

Microneedling Can Target An Array Of Skin Concerns

Microneedling treatments are the holy grail for treating several skincare concerns at once. While the treatments main purpose is for advanced anti-aging therapy to boost collagen production, SkinPen® microneedling also works to improve:

  • Skin texture
  • Reduce the appearance of acne scars
  • Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Even skin tone
  • Improve the appearance of stretch marks
  • Improve the skin's ability to absorb skincare products

SkinPen® treatments can be safely used on all skin types and offer a less intense skincare treatment option when compared to chemical peels and other harsh treatments while providing the same outstanding results.
