Pre and Post Botox Care Tips For The Best Results
Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, you must ensure you understand the pre and post care needed in order to ensure its success. The same goes for Botox. While having Botox injections is far from major surgery, it’s still extremely important that you do what you can to minimize your risk of infection or other side-effects.
To help you do that, here are some pre and post care Botox tips you should follow:
Pre Botox Care
During a consultation, your Botox specialist will tell you what you need to know about your treatment, but don’t hesitate to ask whatever questions you may have. When it comes to your pre-Botox care routine, make sure you:
- Don’t consume alcohol for at least 24 hours before your treatment. This is because alcohol thins the blood and increases your possibility of bruising.
- Avoid certain medications such as blood thinners or anti-inflammatories for the same reason as above.
- Avoid shaving, waxing, or laser in the treatment area prior to your Botox procedure.
- Stay away from products with ‘anti-aging’ substances such as retinol, glycolic acid and alpha hydroxy acid.
- Don’t wear makeup on the day of your procedure. In addition, you should eat well, so that you don’t feel lightheaded during your treatment.
- Understand the success rate and side effects of the treatment so you don’t form any unrealistic expectations regarding your results. This is important to avoid any disappointment.
Post Botox Care
After-care is just as important, if not more than pre-care, so make sure you understand what is expected of you during the recovery period. Some of the things you may want to keep in mind include:
- Don’t massage the treatment area. This is important as doing so may cause the Botox to spread to unwanted areas.
- Use an ice pack to reduce any swelling or discomfort you may have following your procedure. Your skin specialist may even be able to advise which topical cream to use.
- Avoid certain painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin after your Botox treatment.
- Don’t schedule facial treatments such as chemical peels and microdermabrasion for at least 24 hours after your Botox treatment.
- Limit your physical activity. Engaging in strenuous physical activity could cause the Botox to move to other areas of your body and this may lead to trouble breathing and swallowing.
- Limit your alcohol intake after your Botox treatment. This is because alcohol will slow down the healing process and may even increase your risk of developing complications.
Remember: If you are experiencing extreme discomfort, swelling, or any other extreme side effect following your Botox treatment, you should contact your skin specialist immediately.
