You are doing everything right when it comes to your body. You are eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly to maintain your ideal weight and overall you look great. There’s just one problem. Your trouble spots won’t go away and the stubborn fat deposits around your abdomen, thighs, or hips are detracting from your otherwise fit appearance.
Exercise and diet alone will not change the total amount of fat deposits in your body, but body sculpting treatments can. These innovative treatments involve permanently destroying fat cells in targeted areas with no need for surgery or downtime.
Hot Sculpting vs. CoolSculpting
There are two main options for body sculpting: Hot Sculpting, a type of laser lipolysis that destroys fat cells with heat from a laser, and “CoolSculpting,” a form of cryolipolysis that kills the fat cells by freezing them.
Read on for an overview of the differences between Hot Sculpting vs. CoolSculpting and why we prefer Hot Sculpting with the Fotona SP Dynamis Laser at Okanagan Skin Care Centre.
CoolSculpting
What is it?
CoolSculpting involves using a wand-like vacuum device to target a small area on the body, pulling the fat under the skin into the wand where the fat cells are quickly frozen. These fat “ice crystals” are then eliminated naturally by your body. After just one treatment, CoolSculpting can permanently destroy 20 to 40% of the fat cells in a targeted area.
Benefits
CoolSculpting is non-invasive, meaning there are no needles, anesthetic or surgery for the procedure. Since the technician uses a small instrument to pull and freeze fat deposits, you can tailor the procedure to remove fat in a very precise area for a sculpted look.
Disclaimer
A lot of pulling and pinching is involved in CoolSculpting, as the technician uses the vacuum wand to suck up fat cells under the skin. If you have sensitive skin or thick, fibrous fat deposits, CoolSculpting may be too painful to perform.
Hot Sculpting
What is it?
Rather than use cold to destroy fat cells, Hot Sculpting uses heat from a laser beam. As the technician directs the laser to the target area, you’ll feel a moderate sensation of warmth, but no pain. Hot Sculpting produces permanent results, allowing most patients to sculpt away 1 to 5 inches from the target area over the course of 6 to 8 treatments.
Benefits
Hot Sculpting is minimally invasive and does not require an anesthetic, so this option also ensures that you don’t have to spend any downtime recovering from the procedure. The laser can be directed to a wider surface area and it can actually tighten the surrounding skin to prevent sagging after the fat is eliminated.
Disclaimer
Hot Sculpting is safe for a wide range of patients, but it is not advisable for pregnant women, people with metal or electronic implants, and those with a serious health condition, such as cancer or an infection.
