  • Can You Combine BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM®, And Laser Resurfacing Treatments?

Repairing aging skin can be a complex process. There is a large variety of skincare treatments that work to refine the appearance of aging skin. Choosing just one of these treatments can be difficult and confusing, especially if you want to treat more than one skin condition. BOTOX® is a popular and proven treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in several areas around the face. However, this treatment does not address skin concerns regarding sun damage or aging spots on the skin. It has become very popular to combine treatments to target different skin concerns to achieve optimal improvements in the appearance of your skin.

For example, combining BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM®, and laser treatments targets wrinkles, restores youthful volume to your face, and addresses sun-damaged skin to reduce the appearance of age spots leaving you with revitalized, younger-looking skin.

What Does BOTOX® Do For Your Skin?

The most common use for this injection is to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines in your forehead and around your eyes (crow's feet). One of the greatest advantages of receiving a BOTOX® treatment is that the procedure is quick and requires no downtime allowing you to get back to your daily tasks without compromise. BOTOX® therapy is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world and has a number of therapeutic applications. The treatment is ideal for:

  • Smoothing out forehead wrinkles
  • Minimizing the appearance of crow's feet
  • Minimizing the fine lines around the corners of your mouth
  • Lifting droopy eyelids and brows
  • Eliminating frown lines between the eyebrows

BOTOX® injections are most effective in targeting the signs of aging in the upper sections of the face. Nasolabial folds (smile lines) and deep-set glabella lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows) cannot be easily improved with the injection of BOTOX®. They may require the intervention of other anti-aging treatments such as JUVÉDERM® fillers or laser resurfacing treatments to help restore skin volume and smooth out the appearance of these deep-set wrinkles and fine lines.

What Is Laser Resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing harnesses the power of light and heat to improve skin tone, texture, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. As we age, collagen production slowly begins to decrease causing wrinkles and an aged appearance. The laser creates a controlled injury in the skin's tissue that stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers resulting in smoother and firmer skin. When you exercise, you intentionally cause small tears in your muscles which grow back stronger. Laser resurfacing works similarly by causing these small, controlled injuries to the skin allowing it to grow back firmer with increased collagen. Laser resurfacing treatments are ideal for treating:

  • Deeper wrinkles and fine lines
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scars (including acne scars)

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring chemical found in our bodies that is responsible for promoting deep hydration within the skin.  Due to the effects of aging, your skin may become brittle, dry, and thin.  This is why mature skin requires extra care. JUVÉDERM® fillers inject the hyaluronic acid solution to fill in wrinkles and fine lines and restore volume in the skin to give you a more youthful-looking appearance. This injection is ideal for treating:

  • Smile lines
  • Nasolabial folds (lines running from your nose to the corner of your mouth)
  • Improving the appearance of scars
  • Restoring skin volume in areas such as your cheeks
  • Combining All Three Treatments

Combining BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM®, and laser resurfacing treatments allows you to receive all of these amazing benefits that come with each treatment. BOTOX® will improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in your forehead and around your eyes. Dermal filler treatments will restore the volume in your face to smooth out deep-set wrinkles and eliminate the appearance of nasolabial folds. And laser resurfacing treatments will promote collagen growth, a secondary goal that contributes to overall facial rejuvenation. Combining these three treatments will help achieve a scar-free, non-surgical facelift that may prevent you from ever having to go under the knife. Advanced techniques give longer-lasting, natural lift and revitalization as your skin is stimulated to produce its own collagen and elastic tissue which lifts and tightens the skin from within.

FAQs

Can I receive all three of these treatments in one appointment?

BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM®  treatments are commonly performed together in one session. Laser resurfacing must be done during a separate appointment 2-3 weeks before or after you receive BOTOX® or JUVÉDERM®  fillers. The heat from the laser can affect and compromise the injectables in your face, therefore, eliminating their effects if performed too closely together.  If your dermatologist recommends receiving your injectables after laser treatment, it is because the laser treatment will stimulate collagen production requiring you to not need as much filler during your next appointment. BOTOX® injections should not immediately follow any procedure that causes skin swelling as it may not stay in its intended position.

Do injectable treatments such as BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM® require downtime?

One of the many benefits of receiving these anti-aging treatments is that they require no downtime, and treatments can be done very quickly. You will be able to resume your daily routine after your treatment with no pain, redness, or swelling.

How much downtime is required for laser resurfacing treatments?

Laser resurfacing treatments will require some downtime to allow your skin to heal. You can expect a downtime period of 1-2 weeks depending on how aggressive of treatment you require.
