Benefits Of IncontiLase Treatments

Did you know that 40% of women experience stress urinary incontinence? This condition can be inconvenient, and can also significantly impact self-esteem. Learn how Okanagan Skin Care Centre can help patients reclaim their lives with IntimaLase therapy.

What Is Stress Urinary Incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence is when a patient can’t fully control their bladder during times of physical stress.

This includes:

  • active household chores
  • carrying any sort of weight
  • strenuous physical activities
  • laughing or sneezing

Stress urinary incontinence can be caused by the stretching and weakening of the ligaments, nerves, and pelvic floor muscles that normally work together to support the bladder and keep the urethra closed.

These changes can occur in patients due to factors such as:

  • Age - With age, many of the supporting tissues can begin to weaken.
  • Childbirth - Women who have had delivered vaginally or had a forceps delivery may experience weakened or damaged nerves and tissues in the pelvic area.
  • Body weight - Individuals with a higher body weight may be at a greater risk for stress incontinence because extra body weight can put pressure on the abdominal and pelvic organs.
  • Previous surgery in the pelvic area - Certain surgeries, such as hysterectomies, can increase patients' risk of stress urinary incontinence.

It goes without saying that stress urinary incontinence can make patients feel highly self-conscious and embarrassed. Additionally, skin that comes in contact with urine often becomes irritated, so patients much always take precautions such as using incontinence pads. This can take a toll on self-confidence.

Stress Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Due to its inconvenient nature, it’s no surprise that many patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence seek a cure.

Many patients are advised to try Kegel (pelvic floor exercises), but some do not find these effective.

Other patients turn to surgical solutions. For example, the patient can choose a urethral sling surgery. During this procedure, a sling is placed around the urethra to lift it back into a normal position, and to exert pressure to prevent leaking. While this procedure can bring strong results, many patients do not wish to undergo an invasive procedure, as well as the lengthy recovery period.

Finally, patients may limit their symptoms using pads or underclothing, but this only mitigates the problem, instead of solving it. Additionally, incontinence garments can be highly uncomfortable and patients may begin to avoid activities that they previously enjoyed, due to self-consciousness.

IncontiLase Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatments: Powerful Yet Noninvasive Treatments

Incontilase was offered to create a noninvasive yet effective solution to this condition. When a patient undergoes an IncontiLase treatment, the nurse uses a small, handheld, nonablative laser to heat the inside of the vaginal canal. This promotes an increase in collagen. This, in turn, results in a thickening and tightening of the vaginal walls and urethra, which prevents urine loss. This leads to increased support of the bladder and resumed control over urination.

A study revealed that "the results indicate that non-ablative Er:YAG laser therapy is a promising minimally invasive non-surgical option for treating women with SUI symptoms".

Here's what one patient had to say about this treatment:

"I can do jumping jacks at the gym now without leaking, after my first Fotona Feminine Rejuvenation treatment."
