7 Best Lip Filler Aftercare Tips for the Best Results

Lip fillers refer to injections that give your lips a plumper and fuller appearance. These injections are often dermal fillers, such as Juvederm or Radiesse, but there are other instances where you can also use Botox.

One of the biggest benefits of a lip filler treatment is that it only takes a few minutes, it’s minimally invasive, and you can return to your normal activities right after your treatment.

However, it’s important to remember that you might experience some tenderness or bruising after the procedure, so it’s important to take care of yourself to ensure the best results possible.

Here are seven lip filler aftercare tips to help you get the best lip enhancement results:

  1. Apply ice. Your lips will likely be swollen after the procedure, and you may notice some redness or bruising at the treatment site. Applying ice to the area afterwards will help ease any swelling, itching, bruising, or other side effects.

  2. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours. After you get your lip enhancement treatment, it’s important to avoid exercise for at least 48 hours. This is because elevated blood pressure and heart rate can make the swelling or bruising worse. However, talk to your doctor about engaging in light activity, such as walking.

  3. Stay hydrated and eat healthy. Drinking plenty of water after your treatment will help your body heal faster. In addition, make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and avoid sodium which may worsen swelling.

  4. Avoid high temperatures. For at least 48 hours after your treatment, avoid steam rooms, saunas, or any other places with high temperatures. This is because high heat can make your swelling more pronounced.

  5. Talk to your doctor about painkillers. If you do have some discomfort, talk to your skin care specialist about which painkillers are okay to take in the days following your treatment. Tylenol will be fine, but you should avoid blood-thinning medications, such as ibuprofen.

  6. Sleep on elevated pillows. Sleeping with your head rested on an elevated pillow will help reduce swelling. In addition to this, DO NOT sleep on your stomach or face.

  7. Time your procedure carefully. If you’re getting lip fillers for a specific event, such as a wedding or reunion, make sure to leave enough time between the procedure and the event, to allow your lips to recover fully.

When Should I Schedule My Lip Filler Treatment?

It’s always advisable to start a new treatment well before a big event. It is recommended that you allow at least three weeks for your cosmetic injectable treatment to settle. If this is your first lip filler treatment, you should even consider doing the procedure at least 4-6 weeks before the event. It’s also important to remember that every individual is different, and results can vary between patients.
