What Are The Benefits Of Mineral Makeup?

Kelowna permanent makeup, kelowna skin clinic

From cult classic makeup lines to your favourite celebrity’s brand, there are tons of makeup options out there. But why should you choose mineral-based makeups? How does mineral makeup compare to permanent makeup? Find out here.

At Okanagan Skin, we're committed to offering our patients the best in both permanent makeup and day-to-day solutions. Check out our blog to learn why, if you prefer conventional makeup to permanent, you should consider opting for mineral-based products.

1. Mineral Makeup Offers A Mini Sun Protection Boost

Mineral makeup is often made with titanium and zinc dioxide, which are powerful SPF-blockers (and interestingly, the key components in mineral sunscreen). While mineral makeup does NOT replace wearing sunscreen, it can add a veil of protection in addition to skin perfection.

2. Mineral Makeup Is Less Likely To Harbour Bacteria

While it’s always essential to throw out your makeup by its use-by date, loose mineral powders may offer an added bit of protection when it comes to bacterial growth. Because mineral makeup powders are pure and inert and do not contain liquids or oils, bacteria simply will not grow.

Application Tip: Tap the mineral powder out of the container into the lid, and sweep it up with your brush or puff from there. Sanitize the lid carefully. Because you won’t be dipping the brush into the compact, there is even less chance of bacteria spreading.

3. Mineral Makeup Is Not Irritating

Mineral makeup, especially powders, do not come with heavy amounts of perfumes, fillers, or synthetic dyes. This is good news for those with sensitive skin!

4. Mineral Makeup Lets You Get Creative!

Loose mineral powder eyeshadow, blushes, and bronzers make customizing your look a breeze. Say goodbye to trying to blend products with different textures or formulations.

Because of their texture and ingredients, mineral makeups blend together beautifully in a way that many liquids, creams, and cake products often don’t.

How To Mix Mineral Makeup:

Application Tip: Always use a separate, sanitized dish or container when mixing your mineral makeup.

For a blended powder, mix the products you prefer and apply as usual.

Fall tip: Golden mineral powder mixed with a little of your usual blush or eyeshadow can add a warm, honey glow to any skin tone.

To intensify a colour, a little water can be added to a small amount of your product and mixed. This can result in a more vivid eyeshadow or cheek stain.

For a luxurious cream eyeshadow or blush, you can add a little bit of your mineral product to jojoba or almond oil.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Choose The Best Mineral Makeup

  • Many makeups contain minerals, so it’s important to check the label to ensure that the product contains a minimal amount of fillers.
  • Formulas marketed for sensitive skin are not always mineral-based, so always check the labels.
  • If you’re feeling lost navigating the makeup aisle, don’t hesitate to give us a call, or browse our selection of nurse-approved mineral makeup. At Okanagan Skin, we stock only the best in mineral makeup and skincare products.

Should I Opt For Permanent Makeup Or Mineral Makeup? What Does Your Clinic Offer?

Our clinic in Kelowna offers the best in both permanent makeup and makeup solutions. Why? Because both permanent makeup and mineral makeup are safe, non-irritating, and allow you to look your best without harming your skin.

The difference between mineral and permanent makeup comes down to personal preference:

  • If you are very busy, and are looking to enhance your look in a long-term way, permanent makeup might be for you.
  • On the other hand, if you're looking for a flexible solution, or to change up your look, mineral makeup might be for you.
  • Many patients combine both, for example, permanent makeup for brows or serious pigmentation issues, and mineral makeup for eyeshadow, blush, or lipstick.
